ABOUT US

Get to Know Kanawha Amateur Radio Club

The Kanawha Amateur Radio Club is a volunteer nonprofit organization composed of FCC Licensed Radio Amateurs. The purpose of the organization is to provide community service and training.

Our volunteers represent all facets of the local community. We have blue collar, professional, and most other occupations represented in our membership. Those volunteers have knowledge and training from things as easy as being National Weather Service weather spotters, to the intricacies of homebuilding radios, using radios to 'IM' each other, and communicate around the world through voice, CW (Morse Code) and digital (Instant Messaging).

Our members have a commitment to our community and demonstrate this by providing communications for local special events as well as provide backup emergency communications for the Kanawha County Emergency Services during flooding and other disaster like situations. The Kanawha Amateur Radio Club is the only Amateur Radio Club in the state mentioned in the State of West Virginia Emergency Communications Plan.

We have volunteers willing to come to your location and discuss Ham Radio. We are especially excited about doing demonstrations for Scouting groups, schools, and other organizations.

Training is an ongoing process. The program section of our monthly club meeting varies the topics to include building, or repairing our equipment, building antennas, communications procedures and other topics that are of interest to the Club membership.

Everyone is welcome to attend our club meetings, whether a licensed 'Ham' or not. We meet the first Friday of every month at The Trinity Lutheran Church, 1600 Kanawha Blvd. East Charleston, WV At the corner of Elizabeth St. & Kanawha Blvd. We gather at about 6 pm for Social Time then the meeting starts at 6:30 pm. Testing follows the meeting for all classes of License.
